Note: If your organization is having a raffle or bingo or anything else that requires a gambling permit from the county, WTTR must also have a copy of the permit before we can put your PSA on the air.

Carroll Calendar
On Saturday, July 31st, the Carroll County Farmer’s Market will be set up in the Ag Center parking lot in tents while the 4-H FFA Fair is being held in the buildings. There will be a great selection of fresh locally produces fruits and vegetables such as peaches, cantaloupes, watermelons, peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, sweet corn, apples, and fresh cut garden flowers. Home-baked goods will include cakes, pies, cookies, scones, and breads. Other food items are jams, jellies, and nuts. A variety of hand made crafts are also available. Hours for the Summer Market are 8 am to 1 pm at the Ag Center in Westminster. Admission and parking are always free. The first annual Willet Missions Family Fun Day fundraiser will take place on Saturday, July 31st from 11am to 3 pm on Route 140 in Westminster, in the parking lot of Team Utz Real Estate. There will be carnival games, a moonbounce, food, a silent auction, and much more, including live music by Monte Leister, Unity, and others. Admission is free. Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church is having an Old-Fashioned Country Festival on Saturday, July 31st from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm on the church property on Route 140 between Taneytown and Emmitsburg. The Festival will feature a variety of food and activities including an antique car show, hay and pony rides, a farmers market, horseshoe tournament, music, and much more. The Silver Run-Union Mills Lions Club and the Union Mills Homestead Foundation are sponsoring the 40th Annual Old-Fashioned Corn Roast Festival on Saturday, August 7th from 11 am to 5 pm at the Union Mills Homestead on Route 97 North. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children 6 to 12. The meal tickets buys a serving of fried chicken, sliced tomatoes, roll and butter, applesauce, lemonade or iced tea, and all the roasted corn that you can eat. Standard Delivery Jazz Combo will provide music throughout the day, and the Carroll County Artist Guild will be displaying and selling their artwork on the lawn of the Homestead. The 134th Annual Dutch Picnic Festival will be held on Saturday, August 7th from 8 am to 8 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church on Deer Park Road in Westminster. The day begins with breakfast sandwiches while you walk through the Dutch Market selling crafts and collectibles. There will be a Silent Auction and a Children’s Activity Center, and live musical entertainment throughout the day. Carroll County farms and agribusinesses have been known for years to produce the best fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, baked goods, and wines. Many Carroll County restaurants support our local farms by serving local wines or featuring dishes that include locally produced products. You can join the Buy Local Challenge, a pledge to eat a minimum of one item from a local farm, winery, or participating restaurant every day during Carroll County’s designated Buy Local Week, August 7th through August 14th. The Annapolis Bluegrass Coalition, one of the mid-Atlantic’s hardest working bands, will perform at the Carroll Arts Center on Saturday, August 14th at 7:30 pm. Their musical roots are deeply planted in the traditional styles and their performances thrill audiences with their unique blend and energy. The Taneytown Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its 8th Annual Baskets, Bags, & Baking Bingo on Saturday, August 21st at the Pleasant Valley Fire Hall. The bingo features Longaberger Baskets, Vera Bradley Bags, and Pampered Chef and Tastefully Simple kitchen products. Doors open at 5:30 pm with food provided by the Pleasant Valley Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and bingo starts with an Early Bird game at 6:45. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Union Bridge Fire Company’s 3rd Annual Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, August 20th at The Links at Gettysburg. There is a fee of $80 per golfer and that includes green fees, cart, range balls, beverages, meal, and prizes. Reservations are required by August 13th and can be made by calling 443-340-9427.
The Community Media Center is offering free media workshops for the community. On Wednesday, August 18th, an orientation, "Getting to Know the CMC" will be held at 6 pm. On Saturday, August 21st, “Basic Certification” will be held at 9 am, followed by “Carroll County History Project Workshop” at 10, then “Social Networking Workshop” at 11. Carroll Hospice is offering Healing Hearts Day Camp for children ages 7 to 13 who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The Camp will be held on Friday, August 27th from 10 am to 3 pm at Landon C. Vendors and exhibitors who want to reach more than 1000 seniors and caretakers are invited to register for the annual Seniors on the Go Expo. This year’s event will be held on Wednesday, October 13th from 10 am to 3 pm at the Shipley Memorial Arena at the Ag Center in Westminster. The expo provides an opportunity for seniors, their families and caregivers to learn about services offered in and around Carroll County. The Westminster United Methodist Church Youth Group is sponsoring its 3rd Annual Clothed with Compassion Fashion Show on Sunday, August 8th beginning at noon in Jubilee Hall at the church on the corner of Main and Center Streets in Westminster. The Fashion Show will feature gently used fashions for students in kindergarten through 12th grade modeled by local youth. There will also be a fun silent auction and a light lunch. Admission is by free will offering or by donating new school clothing for boys or girls ages 5 to 10. Donations of school supplies, new backpacks, and children’s books in good condition will also be accepted. All proceeds will benefit The Shepherd’s Staff Back to School Program. The Carroll Technology Council is hosting a summer networking event at Westminster Island Green on Thursday, August 12th from 3 to 6 pm. Tickets purchased in advance are $10 until July 31st and include unlimited food and beverages, and unlimited use of driving range and mini-golf course. Ticket prices increase to $15 on August 1st. Proceeds from the event will help support the Tech Council and its CompuKids program which donates refurbished computers to qualified Carroll County Public School children, in addition to providing scholarships, educational programs and small business support in Carroll County. The Historical Society of Carroll County is offering a bus trip to Baltimore on Tuesday, August 24th. Stops will include the B&O Railroad Museum, the Inner Harbor, and lunch on your own at Harborplace. After lunch, visit the USS Constellation, the last Civil War vessel still afloat. The final stop will be the Jewish Museum of Maryland. The bus will depart from the parking lot on Ralph Street behind the Church of the Ascension at 9 am and will return at 5 pm. The First Church of God is having a Baked Potato Bar and Contemporary Worship Concert by the Skull Hill Band on Sunday, August 8th at the church on North Center Street in Westminster. The Baked Potato Bar starts at 4:30 pm followed by the concert at 6. A love offering will be taken and all proceeds go into a fund to repave the church parking lot.

Join guest speaker George Miller on Monday, August 2nd as he shares his knowledge on “Outlaws of the Old West.” The talk, one in a series of Learning Lunches at the Carroll County Farm Museum, will focus on the Pinkerton Agency and its significant role in tracking western outlaws such as the notorious James brothers, Jesse and Frank, who roamed throughout the United States robbing trains and banks.
