WTTR WINS FIVE AP AWARDS
WTTR Radio AM-1470 in Westminster has won five Excellence in Broadcasting awards from the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association. The awards were presented in the non-metro category at the annual convention of the association, which is comprised of radio and television stations in Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia. The categories, judges’ comments, and staff members cited included:
- OUTSTANDING COVERAGE OF A CONTINUING STORY—Election Night 2006—“…an example of excellent live coverage of elections that is well thought out and well coordinated. Reporters were all over the district in various headquarters conducting in-depth interviews with the candidates. The coverage gave a good sense of the evening as it unfolded, from slow returns to winning excitement.” Tom Burnett, Dwight Dingle, Mark Woodworth
- OUTSTANDING YEAR-ROUND LOCAL SPORTS COVERAGE—“…covered a wide array of sports in a diverse range of formats. Its play-by-play coverage by knowledgeable announcers made it easy to follow the games. The color commentary gave good additional or differing information from the other announcers. The announcers all had lively deliveries and put each event in the context of the moment and the standings of each team. Other sports shows with reports and interviews also gave depth and understanding to the local sports scene.” Charles Beckhardt III, Dwight Dingle, Bryan McLean
- OUTSTANDING EDITORIAL OR COMMENTARY—I’ve Been Thinking About…--“Pat Sajak’s well-written commentaries discussed everyday matters using a humorous approach while still making a serious point by the end. Although branching from Sajak’s own personal experiences, the commentaries still expressed thoughts and feelings that the general public can easily identify with.” Pat Sajak
- OUTSTANDING PUBLIC AFFAIRS PROGRAM OR SERIES—Carroll Community Forum – Mental Illness. Mark Woodworth
- OUTSTANDING SPORTS FEATURE—Athlete of the Week—“…effectively captured the excitement of sports achievement. Interviews with both players and coaches contained interesting, insightful questions that went far beyond the typical ‘So how do you feel?’ question. The piece gives well deserved recognition to young players in different sports. It serves a useful community service in highlighting the positive activities of teenagers.” Dwight Dingle, Robin Temple
