A live production of “A Christmas Carol” by the acclaimed Maryland Ensemble Theatre has become a joyful tradition for both the young and young-at-heart at the Carroll Arts Center during the holiday season.  In a heartwarming adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic tale, Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, and the Christmas spirits remind us all of the value of kindness and the true meaning of Christmas.

Beautiful staging, breathtaking special effects and stellar performances combine for a magical theatrical experience that transports the audience to Victorian England. “It’s such a treat to bring this classic to life each holiday season,” said the show’s director Julie Herber. “The spirit of the show is infectious, the energy we feel greeting the audience after the show is always so cheerful and heartwarming.”

“A Christmas Carol” is a charming tale that has endured and delighted since being greeted with critical and popular acclaim upon its publication in 1843. The main character, Ebenezer Scrooge, is a miser in the first degree and he thinks Christmas is “humbug.”  When Scrooge is visited by the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future, he learns the error of his ways and embraces the true spirit of Christmas.

Performances will be held at 8 pm on Friday, December 7 and at 3 pm and 8 pm on Saturday, December 8.  Tickets are $18 for adults; $14 for ages 25 & under and ages 60 & up. CCAC Members get additional 10% off. The production is sponsored by The Antrim 1844.

Audiences are encouraged to arrive early to finish up their holiday shopping in the Tevis Gallery at the Arts Council’s annual “Gallery of Gifts,” which features contemporary arts and crafts by 45+ talented regional artists.  There is something for everyone in this eclectic display of gift items.
